Opus Treatments

What is an Opus Treatment

The Opus system uses high-frequency unipolar radio frequency to create controlled zones of coagulation to chosen depths into the dermis that stimulate neocollagenesis (new collagen). The Opus treatment addresses texture and tone as well as other effects of photoaging skin

Treatment Areas

The Opus is able to do skin resurfacing. The main areas the treatment is performed on are face, neck, chest, decolletage, and abdomen.

Pre-treatment considerations

  • If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that this treatment could contribute to a recurrence.
  • No one who has taken the medication Accutane or its generic forms within the last year may have this procedure.
  • Skin care or treatment programs may be used before and after laser skin treatments to enhance the results.

Treatment considerations

  • The procedure necessitates a post treatment wound care regime that must be followed.
  • Redness and exfoliation (flaking of skin) is associated with this procedure and may last from 5-7 days depending on the depth and concentration (percentage) of the treatment performed. You may notice a sandpaper texture and bronzing of the skin as the microscopic columns begin to heal. This is treated tissue working its way out as new skin is regenerated. Keeping the area moist with a light application of a Cerave or Cicalfate Restorative Cream will aid in the healing process.

Contraindications

  • Extensive radiation therapy
  • Scleroderma
  • Cancer
  • Active collagen or vascular disease
  • Poor healing in the treatment area
  • Impaired immune system
  • Bacterial or viral infection
  • Isotretinoin in the past 12 months
  • Burns in the treatment area
  • Metal implants near treatment area
  • Ablative/non-ablative cosmetic intervention (deep peeling) in the past 3 months
  • Implantable pacemaker or automatic defibrillator/cardioverter (AICD)
  • Pregnancy or IVF procedure

Special Considerations

You need to let our office know about any of the following.

  • Smoking
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Recent surgical procedures
  • On-going medications: Contraception - birth control pills

Possible Adverse Effects of Treatment

  • Heating sensation – patient may experience a heating sensation during or just fol- lowing the treatment, however it is expected to be mild and to resolve within a few minutes.
  • Erythema – may be present in the treated area and is likely to disappear within 24 hours.
  • Burns – can be avoided by strict adherence to the operating instructions, and are not likely if the operating instructions are strictly followed. If a burn occurs, it should be treated conventionally.
  • Dry skin – may occur during the first 12 hours post-treatment. Usually it will resolve spontaneously within 48 hours. Lubrication with moisturizing cream can be helpful.
